Mark - illustrators Research!

Victoria Vebell

One image shows a girl in the dark, the other shows a cat at the window and the other a guy in the background with a girl next to a truck with a shotgun.
The images look really life like and tells me the illustrator likes creating people and perspectives of them.
The images can be relevant to my project as i have to produce final stills of an image giving off a certain message.
I really like the image with the guy and girl as it almost looks like a movie poster, it says to me the woman has power, having the gun and truck.
The colors are bright and misty, i like this effect with the bright streak lines and mystical feeling. This could have been produced in Photoshop using different imagery, then using masks and layers created a final outcome. I like the way the guy is faded off in the top corner even if his image takes some direction off the woman.

Stephen Reed
These 2 images show someone who looks as though their about to sit on a stack of pencils and furniture set out in the style of famous board game Scrabble.
I would say the person is trying to use the pencils as a chair seeing maybe if the rubber tips make it a softer feel and the obvious influence for the furniture is scrabble, the cushions are the letters.
I have to produce finals stills of images created from my imagination and emotion from music, these images could also have their particular story.
I really like the scrabble furniture, much more than the other image. It has a look of class and classic style, they both reference sitting down but i included them more for the imaginative feel.
these are more photograph stills than digitally manipulated images, but the way the taker has captured the pure class in the furniture layout is great, the space is perfect and its set almost ready to play.

Ryan Graber

One image is showing a political Korean person on a bomb it seems and the other show football players falling and climbing a ladder.
The top image may have been highly recognisable as he is a famous political person known around the globe, theres great detail on the clothing and the clouds behind and a rainbow.
The other is clearly influenced by football and maybe even diving. It seems a few of the players are falling, then theres a player on the ladder trying to climb to the top.
they look as though they've been made to look painted, theres a a faint texture to both images.
Some of Graber's work that I've seen looks more modern and contemporary.
I like the top image. It may have taken time to do but i cant quite work out what processes have been used.

Rinee Shah

All 3 of these images look rather abstract in their own way. The top image looks as though its for younger people, the colors are bold and quite boring. The characters are standardly drawn as is the rest. The image is still powerful as it has that jungle feeling and faces on the trees.
The middle image looks very deco. It has images of animals and a man that may have been done in photoshop. Simply placing the different images together in the deco style. Again i would say thye audience wouldn't be very old, but maybe more for the people with sense of humour.
You can see clear references in the two top images as the colors seem more bolder and are both using browns and greens but as for the image with girl and bird, its different. She is using dark colors but making the girl bright and rosy. This may be something like what i have to produce, as you can see a clear emotion from the girl not wanting to lose her connection and bond with the bird.
Its looks again as though it could be water paints, but this wouldn't be hard to produce on the computer.

Richard Bornemann

All 3 of this illustrators images use flat background color with a main image taking the attention.
The cahir with the red background and the perfume bottles are very similar, in the way that its just that object and bold color and the fact maybe everybodys opinion on the image may be different.

The middle image looks like a companys design or logo made to look more complex and dinamic, i would say it had something to do with computers or technology design. Again images that say more that you see, your own interpetations can be made on them. This is the angle that the images we do have to create, a view of emotion and connection. Im really impressed with the perfume bottles, just 2 bottles can make such an impact. I see beauty and perfection in the way they stand, the pink so rich it says diamonds and the true lady color.

Joy Taylor

These 2 images look rather different, 1 looks quite old like a retro poster or film clip or trailer etc... and the other looks modern and up to date.

Both may have been created on the computer maybe using photoshop, the top image looks cropped using a real car and animated Dino.

The bottom half of the 2nd image looks real then the leaves and wavey blue colour look photoshop or graphical design. The top image may be used in a film campaign or used to promote something with retro ties or connections, the dinosaur says it has history then the modern car is maybe contrasting the times and era between them. The car image has been seen around and is quite a famous piece by Joy Taylor, but the leaves image looks new and fresh.

I love the way the blue is fading into a slight tint of green and teal, it looks as though the wind is blowing. I would say this image makes people wonder in their imagination, its one of those still images that tells another story and has meaning behind it. I would use this image in my work because the colour is great, and it says more than just blowing leaves, it makes me feel as though the illustrator wanted out imagination to run wild.

Joshua Kemble

These 2 images by Josh Kemble are very similar. You can the clear resemblance that they have both been created in the same way, vector graphics and sketching i would say.
They both look as though they could be strips in a comic, and both have the same child like cartoon feel.
I like the 1st image more because theres a little more going on in that image, the colours are all very dark and shady but the creator has everything quite detailed and even has shade and shadow.
All the characters have expressions on their faces, you can see theres more detail there so the illustrator clearly wanted their expressions to play a major part in understanding the images.
The colours are quite flat, and with it looking cartoon-ish it may not give you a sudden sense of emotion but by catching the expressions and detail you could make your own mind up on whats happening.
I prefer the top image because even though its dark and has no colour the mood of the image is great, black and white police, the car and a drunken driver. The officer clearly can't believe his eyes.
These vector designs can be done in photoshop quite easily, but the main reason i included them was for the detail of expression.

John Kicksee

You would be able to tell both these images come from the same creator, both images of woman which both have a soft innocent look on their face. They also have been blended in to a digitally made background, i would say made in Photoshop using masks, layers and vectors.

Both images are concentrating on the females but clearly the creator is trying to grab a certain affection with the patterns and bright colours. I do prefer the 2nd image as its brighter and the purple just seems a more feminine colour so it dominates the emotion from the woman.

Obviously made for an older audience i would say, maybe used for a poster or book cover etc.. The saddened look in the first image says a lot more than the 2nd, she looks lonely. He clearly made her eyes bright green as well to make you look harder, and give her that extra innocence.

These maybe are more like the stills i will be producing, showing emotion and feeling using just images.

Diana Marye Huff

All these images seem as though there for children or the younger generation. There are bright colours like pinks, purples and reds. The designs on the 1st and 3rd are not the greatest, the 2nd image looks better. Again looks like its bin done on the computer but has feeling and life. The way their snuggled up together and happy, you can see the emotion and safe feeling they have on their faces. They look like they may be sisters. The purple in the image is perfect even if there is a little too much of it, it makes the image easy to look at and has a real warm feeling surrounding it.

The 3rd image is trying to attract woman readers, maybe show lovers. The abstract drawings are quite good and i love the massive show on the page. These images are all very different to look at, but all refer back to woman. Loving and caring for each other and having a show kit. The 1st image looks a little more festive, they have been designed in the shape of mistletoe or snow particles.

The 2nd image definately has the most emotion and sense of feeling from one glance so this would be the image i look at closely, basing some ideas on.

Daniel Mather

I really like both these images. The puzzle pieces look amazing flying off the image with the wind blowing as well. The creator must have thought hard about how he would grab the attention from the viewer. The man looks very calm and assured even though his hat has blown off, the puzzle look makes it stand out a lot.
Maybe the illustrator wanted us to think the mans life is like a puzzle, or there are pieces in his life to be found. It maybe even be pieces of the puzzle in a police case as he looks like he could be an inspector or officer.
There are detailed textures on his tie, coat, wall and the sky. Some sketching may have been edited in Photoshop.

The 1st image is much more quiet, it looks cold and lifeless. A tree with no leaves says death.
It is stood like its looking over something or someone, like its alive. The creator maybe wanted to grip the audience by making them think the tree has other history, like out of a film or fairy tale.
It does look as though its alive or creepy, being in a forest or dark story. It doesn't look sketched or drawn so i would say its been digitally created. I do like it because it has a certain creepy mysterious feeling surrounding it but i like my colour and it has none, very plain and bland.
The tree does show emotion and you could get many feelings from the way its been designed.

Both these images look similar like they are out of a book or comic or game. They look vectored graphics and probably done in Photoshop or a higher level design programme. They would both be for younger people or people into their gaming and animated stuff.

The top image of a monster is very detailed and looks really good, it has lots of different textures and tones but the background i like. The change between dark space like feeling with stars out to the bright gold and yellow below that refers more to the monster and its colours.

The 2nd image colours are similar, its bin made to look dark and make him look like a wise or powerful person. I like this image more. Again like most of the images this could have been done in Photoshop, using masks, vector graphics and filters. The man does look quite real, he has a sense of wisdom and teaching. That would be the emotional look that i will try and create, the sense of feeling and making the audience feel what he feels.

I included these images because this is the kind of work i would like to be doing when i'm out in the world, designing different characters or feelings from images and creations.

The feeling you get from these 2 images are that animated warmth, that its not real but looks very cool and detailed. Images like these could be in gamer magazines or game play.
